Beginner Adult Classes

Class Description:
This is an introductory ukulele class for beginner adults.

The six-week course will include instruction on:

• Learning to read music notation and play simple melodies

• Strumming techniques

• Strumming rhythm

• How to play basic chords

• Playing songs on the ukulele

🎵 Instructor

Rich Cocco

The instructor is Rich Cocco. Rich, along with his wife Catherine, owns and operates Allegheny Music Academy LLC, a private music school here in Coraopolis.

Rich plays guitar, ukulele, and trumpet. He currently teaches guitar and trumpet lessons at the school.

🪕 Ukulele Buying Guide

Standard tuned Ukuleles come in three sizes:

Soprano = traditional small size
Concert = slightly larger than a soprano
Tenor = larger, deeper sounding – good for adults with large hands

The best way to buy a uke is to go to a music shop and try out the different sizes and brands. However, if you are planning to purchase on-line we recommend buying the Concert size.

Some reliable brands are Kala, Luna, Cordoba, and Lanikai.

Expect to pay in the range of $80-$150 for a dependable starter ukulele.

Important Note

There is also a fourth, even larger version called a “Baritone” ukulele.

DO NOT purchase a Baritone ukulele for this class. They are strung and tuned differently than all the other “standard” ukulele sizes.
